Positive Impact
Our Operations Leave a Positive Impact in Maasai Mara
We are a luxury safari Camp operator that cares for the Land, Local community and Preservation of local cultures in so many ways. You choosing to stay with us means you are supporting this very important initiative.
Conservation of Natural Habitats
Lalashe Mara Ripoi is one of the founding member camps of Mara Ripoi Conservancy that has more than 20,000 acres of pristine land leased from the local community for the main purpose of Conservation. It is a very vital area for Wildlife in Maasai Mara as it forms a massive dispersal area. We host possibly the highest concentration of herbivores in the Mara in a small area. Mara Ripoi Conservancy has been secured through guaranteed payment of leases to individual Maasai landowners on monthly payments and Lalashe Ripoi pays its share on monthly basis.
Investment in Privately Owned Community Concessions
All our safari camps and lodges are built in private concessions that are adjacent to the Main Reserve, the land belongs to the community and we pay annual leases and also pay USD.25 per guest per night into the land owners, so choosing to stay with us means you are leaving a positive impact in Maasai Land through Lalashe Mara Camps. The space that we secure from community gives us opportunity to go on walking safaris, do some sundowners/bush breakfasts or bush lunches and even game drives in the bigger conservation areas that we are partner camps. We do pay leases as well in some wildlife Corridors thus Conservation of Wildlife and their much-needed space.
70% of Employment from Local Community across all our camps and lodges
All our camps are located in Maasai land and Lalashe Mara Camps gives back to community by employing over 70% of our staff from the Community. We as well offer training every year to some locals and they later on get employed by us whenever we have opening or they go get employed in other camps and lodges. Our training is very essential mostly to the less fortunate families that do not have school fees to take their children to Hospitality and Tourism colleges in Kenya that are mostly expensive. We are proud to have some of our camp’s Supervisors, Chefs, Guides, Waiters and Housekeepers being from our In-house Training.
Payment of School fees for the less fortunate
Lalashe Camps and the sister Camps; Zebra Plains sponsors over 50 children by paying their school fees for the less fortunate in the community. The children that we sponsor are from the families that lives not far from our camps. School’s management and Village elders will always select those who can not afford to pay school fees then they hand over list to us and we help in payment of their school fees. We also very often help those who are in need to raise certain portion of the required fees for university educations. Some of our guests as well help in sponsorship of some children in the community. We believe in building of a better tomorrow by investing in education of the children around us.
Preservations of Culture through Cultural Village visits and Guests Entertainment
When our guests stay with us mostly on their first visits to Maasai Mara, we encourage them to go visit Maasai village and get to learn about Maasai’s way of living in the wilderness, when they visit, we recommend them to pay a small entry fee and also purchase some of the items from the village. By doing so we ensure our guests get a memorable experience but also giving them direct benefits which in turns empowers them as they will use the money, they collect to buy food, pay school fees and buy clothing. This as well ensures there is preservation of culture for generations to come.
We invite Maasai dancers to our camps to entertain our guests with their beautiful songs, in a week we do over 20 songs depending on how busy we are and we pay for every song and thus ensuring all the locals around us as well benefits from our operations while they create memorable experiences for our guests
Purchase of some food items from the community and local shops.
Lalashe Mara Camps and sister camps Zebra Plains employs over 200 Staff and we do over 80 % of their food purchases such as meats and milk from the Maasai and other food staff from the shopping centres some few kilometres away from the camps and this ensures we give back to community by supporting their businesses.
Plastic Bottle Free
As we grow into sustainability all our camps provides refillable glass water bottles for our guests both in the camps and on safari when doing game drives with Lalashe Mara camps’ Safari Vehicles. Our rooms shower gels/bodywash, shampoos, hair conditioners, body lotions and handwash are as well in refillable bottles across all our camps.
Afforestation around the camps and Lodges
Within our camps and lodges, we have leased some parcels around the camps so that we plant trees. Most of these places had been heavily de-graded from over grazing and it is worth bringing it back to its natural state or even better as it creates habitat for wildlife. So far, we have planted over 20,000 trees.
